Deborah's Story

SHE THOUGHT LIFTING WEIGHTS WOULD MAKE HER ARTHRITIS WORSE.

Deborah knew strength training could be good for her health but she was worried it might do more harm than good.

After years working in a demanding, desk based job, Deborah had noticed her muscles becoming weaker.
She'd always been interested in nutrition and health, and was increasingly aware of the importance of strength training as we get older.

But there were two things holding her back, she didn't like the idea of going to a gym and living with arthritis, she feared lifting weights might cause further damage to her joints.

In early 2024, Deborah came across one of Luke's Facebook posts, what he was offering sounded almost too good to be true.

At their first meeting, Luke reassured her that training could be adapted to her needs, with the aim of helping her become stronger and fitter without aggravating her pain.

The opportunity to train one to one in a private gym made all the difference.

Deborah decided to give it a go.

With patient, individualised coaching from Luke and later Callum, she gradually began rebuilding strength she thought she'd lost forever and the results have made a real difference to Deborah's everyday life.

She no longer needs to ask for help lifting heavy plant pots, sacks of compost or gravel or moving furniture.

Tasks that once required someone else's assistance are now things she can manage independently, she's also noticed an improvement in her stamina.

For Deborah, these changes have been genuinely life changing, not because she's lifting a particular weight in the gym, but because she's regained strength and independence in the activities that matter to her.

Deborah's story is a reminder that getting stronger doesn't have to mean throwing yourself into intense workouts or training beyond your abilities.

With appropriate guidance and an individual approach, strength training can be adapted to different needs and abilities, including for many people living with arthritis and sometimes, the biggest achievements aren't measured in kilograms lifted.

They're measured in the everyday things you can do for yourself again.

Deborah's advice to anyone who thinks they're too old or too weak to start?

"There's no time like the present, don't hesitate! Strength is power and it will give you a new lease of life."
