Margaret's Story

NEARLY 80 AND DISCOVERING STRENGTH SHE NEVER EXPECTED.

After breaking her hip, Margaret found herself facing something she'd never imagined: struggling to walk, losing her independence and feeling increasingly alone.

At the end of May 2026, Margaret suffered a fall that resulted in a broken hip.

She spent four weeks in hospital and, when she returned home, needed a Zimmer frame to get around.

Living alone, she also required support from carers for several weeks.

She'd been given exercises to help with her recovery, but felt she wasn't making the progress she hoped for with her strength and mobility and the physical challenges were beginning to affect her emotionally, too.

Margaret was feeling increasingly low and lonely.

It was Margaret's daughter who remembered that Luke had previously helped a friend, she suggested getting in touch and Margaret is so pleased she did.

Working with Luke, she's now taking part in strength training sessions adapted to her abilities and recovery needs.

With encouragement and individual support, Margaret is working towards rebuilding her strength, improving her mobility and feeling more confident in herself.

But something else has changed, too, she's enjoying her training sessions and feeling more positive.

After a difficult period of recovery and isolation, having something to look forward to has become an important part of her journey.

Margaret will turn 80 next June and strength training certainly wasn't something she ever expected to be doing at this stage of her life.

But here she is, showing up, learning, building strength and discovering that she can still work towards improving her health and independence.

Her journey is still unfolding, and that's what makes it so special.

You don't have to be young, athletic or already confident to begin strength training.

For Margaret, the goal isn't lifting the heaviest weights or achieving a dramatic transformation.

It's rebuilding her strength and mobility following a serious injury, while finding encouragement and connection along the way.

And perhaps the loveliest part is how she describes her experience:

"I really enjoy my training sessions and [I'm] feeling more positive. I never thought I would be doing this training at my age!"

Nearly 80, still learning, still getting stronger and still finding reasons to look forward to what's next.
